How often should I have an eye exam?
That depends on many factors, including your age, eye health, family history, occupation and general health. Generally speaking, it is best to follow your doctor's recommendation. For children, both the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Optometric Association recommend a child's first eye exam at the age of 6 months. Critical visual skills are developing at this age and early detection of visual problems can be crucial to a child's learning and acquisition of important skills.
